Las Vegas Images 2018-2019

Welcome to the new Pleasing Eye

Thank you for visiting the Pleasing Eye Website. It contains images that were pleasing to me and I hope they are also pleasing to you!

We’re spending  a considerable amount of time in Las Vegas this year.  We arrived in October, 2018.  We’re staying at KOA Campground at Samstown.  I see patients 3 days a week and spend considerable time writing blogs.

The Camera Systems of the Pleasing Eye

I’d like to share what I am currently shooting with:  An Olympus OM-D that a great friend, photographer Craig Milburn showed me a few years ago.

The Oly OM-D is a mirrorless 2/3 camera.  It is much smaller than the systems I had previously; Nikons.

In January of 2019 my 17mm wide angle lens became inoperable.  At that time I had made reservations to attend a photography workshop in Hanoi, Vietnam with Eric Kim.   At that time many of his videos were on You Tube and he was writing about the Ricoh GR-II.  It is a small pocket camera with full image sensor and a great lens.

I am now the proud owner of the Ricoh II and  been shooting with it, and understand the menus, aperture and shutter priorities, and the program mode.  It even has a video recorder.  It’s been difficult adapting to the Richoh II.  However, I am now comfortable making photographs with it.

Th jury is out as far as which one I like best.  The Ricoh has a fixed lens where the OM-D has interchangeable lenses.  I definitely have a bias towards the Olympus OM-D.  I like the ergonomics, an through the lens focusing.  The Ricoh has the LED screen on the back and no view-finder.  The latter has its advantages, esp. it’s small and can be placed in your palm, and you can photograph subjects with one hand without camera shake.  It’s also unobtrusive and not easily recognizable.

Below are some images made with both camera systems.  Each image can be more readily seen by clicking it.

My friend and “other mentor” Eric Kim erickimphotography.com suggests the visual artist capture images wherever he or she may be, and to keep a camera in the pocket at all times.  I’ve never really thought about capturing images in and around my home. Here are a few that were made.  (They enlarge when you hover and click.)

The I Phone X Max is also a formidable camera system.  The quality of the images and the videos are exceptional.  One can capture images or video and instantly upload them to social media which is a big plus.  Not only are the images formidable, but so is the weight of it.  I’m now familiar with all system and can readily choose the appropriate tool when needed.
