Street Portraiture: Striking up a conversation
Street Musicians often need monetary support for their chosen avocation. As I passed, the colors of his clothing and facial features were remarkable. The tune of the recorder was unlike any heard before. I placed a dollar in his basket. He then started asking me questions. As we conversed I asked to make a photograph. He consented, which allowed me to inquire further as many different photographs were made. Politely I exited after showing him the images. (He did not have an e-mail.)
This gentleman’s black hat immediately grabbed my attention. I told him how much I loved his hat! (I do love hats!) He was asked where he was from. “Texas.” was the reply. We then talked about Texas, and our experiences. He was then reminded how much I liked his hat, and this was followed by a request to photograph him. He consented, and I could photograph him from any angle or distance.
