This page is about street portraiture wherever one may be. One of the key expressions in photography deals with getting closer. Aspiring street photographers learn to get past their fear of confronting a perfect stranger for a portrait. These images are environmental portraits which capture the subject within his or her environment. Both the subject and environment play an equal role. Both were asked permission to make their photograph.
The photographer asks a question or makes a remark or comment to the individual he wishes to photograph. Also included is a way to compliment the individual about something observed. Permission is then asked to make a photograph, which is usually accepted. As the photographs are made, the conversation continues which enables different photographic angles and distances from the subject. When permission is given there is a connection which often makes for a more interesting photograph.
